This 70cm furoshiki design incorporates the Edo-period concept of mitate - a playful and imaginative approach where one thing is likened to another.

Inspired by the hollyhock, a symbol associated with the Tokugawa family and believed to bring abundant good fortune, the design portrays chidori birds - symbols of victory and prosperity - transforming as they fly, shifting from bamboo leaves into swallows. This imagery reflects the idea that embracing change leads to new opportunities and success.

Rich in symbolism and story, this furoshiki carries wishes for good fortune, abundance, and the strength to seize one’s moment through change.

Each furoshiki is hand-dyed using traditional katazome techniques in Kyoto, where textile making has continued for over 110 years. Skilled artisans carefully dye each piece by hand, one by one, preserving time-honoured methods passed down through generations.

Beautiful and meaningful, this furoshiki is suitable for wrapping, carrying, or gifting, and can also be enjoyed as a decorative textile in the home.
