"Geisha Walking through the Snow at Night" is a woodblock print by the celebrated Japanese artist Kitagawa Utamaro, created around 1797 during the Edo period.
The scene captures a quiet moment as a geisha and her attendant move through falling snow beneath a wide paper umbrella. The darkened background and drifting flakes soften the landscape, wrapping the figures in a sense of stillness. The attendant carries a lantern and a lacquered box, traditionally used to hold a shamisen. Utamaro’s refined lines and gentle attention to gesture bring a quiet elegance to this winter scene.
Printed and framed in Australia, the artwork is presented in a natural timber frame that complements the traditional character of the piece.
